iOS assistance - battery life

Hello again to you all. Happy New Year, I trust you have all had a great holiday season. I'm guessing considering your interests you may have been in receipt of some new gadgets/tech from good ol' St. Nicholas.

What I would like to try and start with you all is a forum of sorts, the opportunity to ask questions, offer tips or advice and share your experiences with others.

As you can tell from the title this one will be based around Apples iOS.

I'll start us off with some advice below for iOS and how to make your device last longer between charges.

1. Turn off location services.
There are a lot of apps now that want to know where you are, this is essential for things like Google maps and useful for the camera. There are however other apps that will ask to know your location.

To change these options on your iDevice go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

From here you can either turn it off all together or you can manage each app that requests it individually. Ask yourself - "Does Angry Birds really need to know where I am?"

2. Turn off parallax.
The dizzying effect of the parallax, although giving you the cool effect of some depth to your home screen does in fact drain some of your precious battery life.

To turn off go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion and tap the button.

Not only will this help to save some battery life it'll stop some of you getting those head he's you've had since iOS 7 was released.

3. Turn off Siri.
In all honesty how often do you actually use it for daily tasks?
To turn off go to Settings > General > Siri.

4. Turn off background app refresh
This is a great feature to keep apps up to date in the background, like your location for Google Maps but it will drain your battery fast.
To turn off go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh from here you can turn off this feature all together or you can select apps individually

5. Automatic app updates
Although it saves you from going into the App Store to get the newest versions of your apps it can also work over your data connection this sucking the life out if your battery. You can select to turn off auto updates for apps and also auto downloads of apps, music and books purchased on another device.
To turn off go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn off the updates options. Turning off all with help save not only battery life but storage as well.

6. Turn off AirDrop
If you're not actually using it, or Bluetooth, turn it off.
To turn off slide open the control center, tap AirDrop and tap Off

7. Turn off Spotlight
As this is continuously indexing it is advised to turn this off, especially as you probably spend most your time looking for what you want or searching in safari.
To turn off go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and disable what you don't need.

8. Turn off Diagnostics and Usage reports
Your iDevice is setup to send Apple daily diagnostics which can ren include location data.
To turn off go to Settings > General > About > scroll to bottom and select Diagnostics and Usage and then select Don't Send

9. And finally, brightness
The most obvious option to help save some of your juice.
Either change in the Control Center or got to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness and turn off Auto-Brightness and decrease the brightness manually.

Hopefully these will help you last longer throughout the day.

If you have any tips please comment and let everybody know.

Failing that try visiting replacebase for a replacement battery.

Bye for now
